Beard on Subcity radio 12/11/07 - listen again!!!
Stew and Matt (and our new producer Jo!) bring you a lovely selection of beauty, noise and excitement! And some nonsense.
Good show this. Decided I should really do some notes about some of the tracks we played.
Absolutely loving Bobb Trimble: private press psych pop from the early 80s. He has a beautiful keening high tenor voice somewhere between Ben Chasny and Big Star's Chris Bell. And the effects laden production is amazing - genuinely woozy and psychedelic. An amazing rediscovery from Secretly Canadian.
The new Richard Youngs is stunning too, while the Daniel Higgs song is intense, Old Testament avant-Appalachia of the highest order.
Gloriously daft punk-prog-anti-folk fun from the wonderful Le Club Des Chats. We saw these cats (pun intended) in Glasgow recently and were suitably blown away and delighted by their brilliantly inventive and cute absurdism. Like Vialka crossed with Beat Happening.
Plenty of kick ass rocking sounds in this show of course. That Edgar Broughton tune is a medley of Beefheart's Drop Out Boogie and The Shadow's Apache. Brilliant!!! Awesome Acid Mothers, and nice and queasy stuff from White Mice and the Cardiacs. New That Fucking Tank single, with guest vocals from Giles, formerly of Danananaykroyd, is a belter, with plenty of twists and tangents and wrought iron riffage.
Really lovely stuff from Rock Action's latest signing Remember Remember. The solo project of Glasgow's Graeme Ronald (Multiplies, Royal We, Sexy Kids et al), he creates lovely minimalist reveries from guitar, glockenspiel, delays and loops. He's supporting AMT in Glasgow on Friday. Hopefully we'll see a release on RA before too long.
